The excitement of installing a home theater system can only be dampened by the thought of its installation. Diagrams, wiring, equipment, wall mounts and power tools can at first be a bit daunting. Spending some time planning your installation can save you time installing, and help you get a home theater you can be proud of and enjoy.
Selecting the best room for your home theater system is essential for achieving the optimal entertainment experience and making the installation as uncomplicated as possible. Choosing a room with fewer glares from windows and outside light is best. Also, selecting a room that is not adjacent to bedrooms or areas where others will be sleeping might be a wise choice.
Start by drawing a diagram of the room. Draw the speakers, screen, and equipment locations.
Plan how you will be mounting each component. If you're intending to mount any of the equipment on a wall, always ensure that you use proper fasteners and drive the screws deeply into the studs. You can always wrap up extra cable with plastic ties. When it comes to cables you get what you pay for. Higher end cables will make a difference that you can see and hear. High end cables are easily noticed by their circumference, weight and shiny gold plated connections. Store your wiring diagrams, extra cables and equipment manuals all together in a safe spot where you can easily get to them when you have to. During installation you can color code each end of your wires with a strip of matching colored tape wrapped around the cable. You can get colored tape at many hardware stores and craft stores. This will be very handy in a few weeks when you need to reset a component by unplugging it.
You must also think about your home theater's lighting. Indirect lighting from recess lights is desirable though not always practical. Lamps or lights with dimmer switches will allow you to set the mood and see the screen without straining your eyes.
While the furniture that makes you most comfortable is the best choice, there is now a good variety of home theater seating. There are loungers, couches, seats with built in storage and consoles, sectionals, and children's chairs. Think about the maximum number of individuals which will be in the home theater room at any particular time, there shapes, sizes and personal preferences.
